Enshrouded Night Sanctums - Night-Only Loot Runs and Sparks
What Night Sanctums actually are in Enshrouded: night-gated loot runs that cost a Spark to open, what is inside, and why they are not boss arenas despite the name.
Editor’s note: We have been testing this in early access and confirm the night gating, the Spark cost, the trap types and the Elio Ricci unlock. Where a count could not be confirmed we mark it not yet independently verified rather than guess - and verify against the live 1.0 build. Last verified: 2026-09-29.
Night Sanctums are the content type players mislabel most often. The name sounds like a boss raid; it is not. They are time-gated loot runs - sealed by day, opened with a Spark, and filled with traps rather than with a health bar.
What is a Night Sanctum in Enshrouded?
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| When | Night only - doors are sealed by day |
| Cost | One Spark to open |
| Inside | Rolling spike traps, spark throwers, small enemy mobs |
| Payoff | Loot, lore, rare chests (the Scholar of the Empyrean set among them) |
| Special case | The Elder’s Night Sanctum holds the survivor Elio Ricci, who unlocks character customization |
| Repeatable | Yes - it is a night-gated loop, not a one-time clear |
When can you enter a Night Sanctum?
Night is already Enshrouded’s pressure mechanic: the Shroud is the game’s core survival threat, and darkness is when the world gets hostile. A Night Sanctum asks you to spend that tension on a loot run instead of a travel leg, which is the whole trade.
Two practical consequences:
- Do not treat it as a boss attempt. Bring what you bring for a trap room - mobility and ranged damage - not what you bring for a Flame-gated arena. See best weapons by playstyle.
- Do the Elio Ricci run early if you care about cosmetics. Character customization is locked behind a survivor inside one of these Sanctums, and it is a one-time unlock rather than a repeatable farm.

Are Night Sanctums boss arenas?
Enshrouded has four named content types, and they are easy to confuse:
- Ancient Spires - climb a puzzle tower, gain a fast-travel node
- Sun Temples - four puzzle arenas, chest re-log farmable
- Hollow Halls - the multi-level dungeons, with the Hollow Cyclops
- Night Sanctums - night-gated trap-and-loot runs, Spark-costed
The comparison table on the bosses & dungeons hub is the one-screen version.
