Enshrouded Crafting — The Five Artisans and What Each Makes

Enshrouded's five crafting artisans — Blacksmith, Alchemist, Hunter, Farmer, and Carpenter: where to find them, what they make, and how to unlock each workshop.

9/20/2026 Last updated: 9/20/2026 6 min read

Enshrouded’s crafting revolves around five Artisans, each gated by a workshop you build at your base and tied to a unique category of recipes. Unlike games where every item comes from one generic workbench, Enshrouded’s Artisan system spreads 300+ materials across five specialized stations — so knowing who makes what matters before you go hunting for resources.

Scope note: This page is written for 1.0 (October 15, 2026) from verified early-access data. Artisan roles and workshop names are confirmed. Exact recipe lists, material quantities, and workshop placement requirements marked verify at 1.0 — the full recipe tree may shift at launch.

The five Artisans at a glance

Artisan Workshop What they make Biome to unlock
Blacksmith Anvil Forge Tools, weapons, armor, repair kits Springlands (early game)
Alchemist Alchemy Station Potions, poisons, fireworks, utility consumables Springlands → Revelwood
Hunter Hunting Lodge Traps, bait, arrows, animal-derived gear Revelwood (mid-game)
Farmer Farm Plot + Seed Bench Food (plant-based), seeds, crop recipes Springlands (first biome)
Carpenter Carpenter’s Bench Building materials, decorations, furniture, wood-based tools Springlands → Revelwood

How Artisans work

Each Artisan is a named NPC you recruit, not a generic workbench. The flow is:

  1. Build the workshop — place the Anvil Forge (or equivalent) at your Flame Altar base
  2. Find and recruit the Artisan — each one spawns in a specific biome landmark (see the table above) and walks to your base once rescued
  3. Assign the Artisan to the workshop — walk them to the station and assign
  4. Craft recipes — open the workshop to see that Artisan’s full recipe tree

Artisans do not leave once assigned — they’ll stand at their workshop permanently and you can interact with them anytime to open crafting. You can also deconstruct and move workshops; the Artisan stays with the base, not the station.

Blacksmith — tools, weapons, armor

The Blacksmith is your primary gear Artisan. They make:

  • Tools: pickaxes, axes, sickles — upgrade tiers as you progress biomes
  • Weapons: swords, staves, bows, daggers — each biome adds a new weapon tier
  • Armor: chest, head, leg slots — set bonuses and resistances tied to biome materials
  • Utilities: repair kits, weapon skins

💡 Tip: prioritize the Blacksmith’s first weapon upgrade before exploring beyond Springlands. A Bronze-tier weapon vs. the default wooden one is a noticeable difference in boss fights.

Alchemist — potions and consumables

The Alchemist handles everything that goes into your hotbar:

  • Healing: small/large health potions, Shroud-mitigation potions
  • Buff potions: stamina, defense, fire resistance
  • Poisons: weapon coatings (early-mid game DPS boost)
  • Fireworks and utility items: signal flares for co-op, crowd control

Hunter — traps, arrows, and animal gear

The Hunter is specialized for hunting and ranged play:

  • Ammo: regular arrows, fire arrows, poison arrows
  • Traps and bait: placeable traps for auto-farming meat/leather
  • Animal-tier gear: leather and hide-based armor/weapons for mid-game crafting
  • Hunting lodge upgrades: unlocks better trap designs as you level

Farmer — food and seeds

The Farmer is your survival backbone:

  • Food recipes: cooked meals that give Stamina and Comfort buffs
  • Seeds: plantable crops at Farm Plots — corn, wheat, berries
  • Crop rotation: different biomes drop different seed types; plant the right seed in the right biome soil for max yield

Carpenter — building and decoration

The Carpenter covers construction and aesthetics:

  • Building materials: refined wood, planks, beams — upgrade tiers per biome
  • Decorations: furniture, wall hangings, trophies
  • Comfort items: the high-Comfort pieces that push your base over 119 Comfort
  • Utility structures: signs, storage upgrades, co-op markers

💡 Comfort tie-in: The Carpenter is the Artisan you’ll return to repeatedly if you’re building a high-Comfort base. See the Comfort system guide for how Comfort buffs your Stamina.

Material sources (who feeds who)

Each Artisan depends on materials you gather in the world before they can craft anything. Here’s who needs what:

Artisan Key raw materials Where to find them
Blacksmith Ore (copper/iron/steel), stone, leather Springlands → Nomad Highlands mines
Alchemist Plant fibers, berries, mushroom variants All biomes; some herbs are biome-exclusive
Hunter Hide, meat, feathers, bone Animal mobs everywhere
Farmer Berries → seeds, wheat variants, crop fiber Springlands wild bushes + farm plots
Carpenter Wood variants (each biome has a unique wood), resin Biome-specific trees

1.0 verification checklist

When 1.0 drops on October 15, re-check these before un-drafting this page:

  • Confirm each Artisan’s recruitment location and quest chain
  • Confirm workshop placement requirements (Flame gate, comfort minimum)
  • Full recipe count and tier list per Artisan
  • Any Artisan reworks or balance changes at 1.0
