Editor’s note: We have been testing this in early access and confirm the mechanics and location described on this page. Where a value could not be confirmed we mark it verify at 1.0 rather than guess - and re-check on launch day. Last verified: 2026-09-20.
The Comfort system is what makes an Enshrouded base feel like a home - and it does more than look good. Comfort feeds the Rested buff, a stamina boost that quietly makes every gathering, fight, and sprint a little easier. This page covers the three requirements, how Comfort points actually work, and what is worth building.
What Comfort does
Comfort is a duration buff, not a happiness meter with unlocks. When your conditions are met, you gain the Rested buff, which:
- Increases your maximum stamina
- Increases your stamina regeneration
A longer Rested buff means you stay topped up longer between fights and gathering bursts. It is the kind of system that does not show up on the damage numbers but makes the whole game feel smoother.
The three requirements
You need all three at once, at the location you are resting:
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Sheltered | You are under a roof (or otherwise covered) |
| Warmth | An active Flame Altar or fire is nearby |
| Comfort points | At least 1 point of Comfort from furniture |
The Flame Altar is the natural warmth source, which is why the Rested buff and your base are the same thing: a cozy, warm, roofed spot around your altar. See the Flame Altar guide for the mechanics behind the anchor itself.
How Comfort points work
Comfort is scored per furniture category - Beds, Chairs, Tables, Thrones, Flooring/Rugs, Toilet, Bathtub, Sink, Shower, and more. The key rule: only the single best item in each category counts. Placing ten chairs does not stack ten times; you get the chair score once. So the goal is to cover many categories with good items, not to flood one room.
The mechanic is simple:
- A base of about 5 minutes of Rested when your conditions are met.
- Each additional Comfort point adds roughly one minute to the Rested duration.
- The cap varies by version (older builds around 51-70; Update 7 guides cite up to 119, which is about two hours of Rested). Treat the exact cap as version-dependent.
What to build, in priority order
- Shelter first. A roof over the resting spot. Without it, no amount of furniture counts.
- Warmth. A Flame Altar (or a lit fire) inside the shelter. This is the part most players already have.
- The high-value categories. Beds and seating are the ones you actually use; add those before exotic items like a throne or a bathtub.
- Breadth over depth. Once the core categories are covered, adding a new category (flooring, a table, a toilet) gains you more than upgrading a category you already maxed.
Does Comfort do anything else?
In the verified early-access data, Comfort’s confirmed effect is the Rested buff (stamina + regen). One source claims it also speeds NPC crafting, but that is a single, low-confidence report - treat it as unconfirmed until you can test it.
Next steps
- Where to put the warm, roofed spot is a base-layout question - see the base design gallery.
