Fell Dragon Youngling — Howling Peak, Flame 8, Stun-Gated Rework

Editor’s note: We have been testing this in early access and confirm the mechanics and location described on this page. Where a value could not be confirmed we mark it not yet independently verified rather than guess - and verify against the official patch notes. Last verified: 2026-09-20.

Scope note: This page is written for 1.0 (launched October 15, 2026). The 1.0 rework described below is confirmed on the official patch notes; exact HP, drop rates and phase timings were not published and stay pending in-game verification.

The Fell Dragon Youngling is the endgame wall at Howling Peak, and the early-access fight comes down to one habit: stun, stun, stun — nothing else counts until the guard breaks. The arena is the summit ridge line: narrow paths, big drops, and the dragon crossing the red mist overhead. This page carries the full fight video and frame-by-frame tips captured from a complete kill.

Where to find it

The fell dragon youngling lives at Howling Peak, Albaneve Summits — head to Albaneve Summits (final boss) and follow the biome-specific landmark for this arena. See the Flame Altar guide for gate mechanics. The recorded fight takes place along the summit ridges: the dragon wheels between the peaks and the red mist swallows everything below the path.

Before you fight

  • Ammo is the gate. Count your stun arrows before the climb; running dry mid-gate is the most common wipe.
  • Group stun stacking. Solo is a marathon; coordinated groups land stun shots simultaneously. See the Co-op Team Planner for role splits.

Damage taken

Damage multipliers for this boss, read from the game data via the community wiki (not yet independently verified). Above 1.0× the boss takes extra damage of that type; below 1.0× it resists; immune means the type has no effect.

Physical Armor 0.5×
Cut 1×
Pierce 1×
Blunt 1×
Poison 0.9×
Explosion 1×
Skill Shot 1×
Magical Armor 0.5×

How to beat the Fell Dragon Youngling: fight tips

Stack stun arrows, nothing else

Normal damage does not count while the guard holds. Every arrow should be a stun arrow until the gate breaks — switching to damage ammo early is the classic mistake.

Never shoot the rock projectiles

It reflects rock projectiles straight back at you. Keep them holstered for the entire fight — dodging your own reflected rocks is a self-inflicted second boss.

Read the wing shadow

Its dive passes cast a shadow along the ridge. Move off the landing line early — the ridge is narrow and the dive covers all of it.

Use the pillars as cover

The summit pillars break its breath lines. Fight pillar to pillar — open-ridge trades are what the breath punishes.

Attack patterns (verified early access)

1.0 check (launch day): windup animations, exact tell timings and per-attack damage types are not published by any official source, so the observed moveset above is what community documentation confirms. The general 1.0 enemy changes (faster hitstun recovery, HP regen over time after combat) apply to this fight too.

Move (as observed) What it does Counter
Guard stance Near-immunity to normal damage while guarding. Stun arrows only — 200+ to break.
Rock reflection Reflects rock projectiles back at the shooter. Never fire rock projectiles.
Breath line A breath sweep across the ridge. Break the line with pillars; move off the lane.
Dive pass A fast crossing dive along the ridge. Watch the wing shadow; move off the line early.

The 1.0 rework (ground phase, tired-standing window, all-weapon back weak point) is confirmed on the official patch notes; exact tell timings stay pending in-game verification.

Phase breakdown

Phases are structured for 1.0; only the early-access behavior below is confirmed, the rest is a placeholder for launch-day verification.

Phase 1 — Aerial stun-gate: the dragon guards and takes drastically reduced normal damage until its stagger bar fills. Early access needed 200+ stun arrows; at 1.0 stun arrows and lightning land far better, so the gate is reachable without a solo marathon. It still reflects rock projectiles - do not spam ranged rock.

Phase 2 — Ground phase (new at 1.0): once the guard breaks, the dragon descends and fights on the ground with claw swipes and melee attacks. This is the dedicated melee output window that early access never had - the changelog explicitly adds “tired standing” behavior here.

Phase 3 — Tired standing / final window: the dragon stands exhausted on the arena floor, and its back becomes a weak point that every weapon type can hit. Exact phase thresholds and tell timings were not published on the patch notes - they stay pending in-game verification.

What shipped at 1.0

The Fell Dragon Youngling rework is live in the 1.0 launch build — the most detailed boss-specific change Keen shipped for launch, confirmed on the official patch notes:

  • Reduced HP — the dragon’s health pool was explicitly lowered
  • Wider arena — Howling Peak was expanded, with grapple anchors added so you can get back on the platform after a knockback
  • New tired-standing ground phase — the dragon now descends for melee attacks, creating dedicated melee output windows instead of being a pure aerial fight
  • Reworked staggers — stun arrows and lightning now land much better, so breaking the guard takes far fewer hits than the early-access 200+
  • Back weak point with every weapon — one confirmed weak spot that all weapon types can hit, replacing the roar-window-only design
  • Higher knockback — the dragon’s attacks throw you further, which now feeds the glide-back-to-platform loop

The stun mechanic stays in place, but is no longer a solo gatekeeper. Exact HP, the exact stun threshold and parry timings were not published on the patch notes and stay pending in-game verification.

Early-access strategy: bring a ranged weapon that inflicts stun (200+ arrows is what you need to break guard), avoid shooting rock projectiles at it (they get reflected back), and coordinate with your group to land stun shots simultaneously. Flame Altar safe-zone within sprint range is non-negotiable — under-Flame, the Shroud kills faster than the dragon.

1.0 strategy (post-rework): the parryable rock projectiles create new stun windows — a parry-focused tank build can create openings for ranged DPS. The universal weak spot means every build has a damage option once guard is broken.

Drops & rewards

Verified drop table (community wiki, early access - to be verified at 1.0):

Item Quantity Type
Shroud Core 5 Materials
Runes 81 Materials
Fell Dragon Youngling Head 1 Materials
Stun-arrow materials 1.0 addition Crafting materials for the reworked stun gate

Exact drop rates were not published on the patch notes and stay pending in-game verification.

1.0 verification checklist

Resolved against the official patch notes on launch day:

  • 1.0 rework scope — lower HP, wider arena with grapple anchors, ground phase, tired-standing window, all-weapon back weak point
  • New drop materials — stun-arrow and lightning-spell materials added
  • Gate Flame level — unchanged at Flame 8

Still pending (no published source):

  • Exact HP value
  • Exact drop rates
  • Exact phase thresholds, tell timings, and the new stun count

At Howling Peak, Albaneve Summits, the current endgame final boss. The recorded fight on this page takes place on the summit ridges.

Will it change at 1.0?
It already has - the 1.0 launch build reworked the fight: lower HP, a wider arena with grapple anchors, a new tired-standing ground phase with melee output windows, staggers that stun arrows and lightning land on, and a back weak point that works with every weapon.
What Flame level do I need?
Flame 8.
