How does the team planner work?

What is the backbone of a good squad?
What team sizes are supported?
Editor’s note: We have been testing this in early access and confirm the mechanics and location described on this page. Where a value could not be confirmed we mark it verify at 1.0 rather than guess - and re-check on launch day. Last verified: 2026-09-20.
Enshrouded is built around shared camps and 16-player worlds, but most real co-op sessions run 2-6 people. The hardest part of a good squad is not “who is strong” - it is who fills which role so nobody is redundant. This interactive planner takes your team size and outputs a complementary role lineup, then links each role to the skill-tree path you should build.
How the planner works
The tool below takes one input: how many people are in your squad. It outputs:
- A role lineup (who should play what)
- The primary skill path each role should invest in (from the 12 paths)
- The key skills to grab first
- A synergy tip for that team size
It is deliberately simple: Enshrouded has no fixed classes, so a “role” here means a build direction, not a lock. You can swap any role for another as long as the squad still covers tank + healer + at least one DPS.
The interactive team planner
How to read a lineup: each card shows the role, the primary skill path (red = melee/defense, green = ranged/agility, blue = magic/support), the stat to prioritize, and the first skills to take. Click “Build guide” to jump to the Forging the Path skill tree guide.
The 6 role archetypes
The planner draws from six archetypes. Each maps to one or more of the 12 skill paths; in practice you pick the path that best fits the weapon you want to use.
| Role | Primary path | Stat | Key skills | What they do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tank | Guardian (Tank) / Warrior | Constitution | Power Parry, Shield Mastery, damage-reduction passives | Holds aggro, absorbs hits for the party |
| Healer | Healer | Spirit | Water Aura, Battle Heal, healing auras | Sustains the whole group over time |
| Melee DPS | Barbarian / Warrior | Strength | Battle Heal, Heavy Handed, Whirlwind Crescendo | Front-line burst damage |
| Ranged DPS | Ranger / Assassin | Dexterity | Multi-Shot, Headhunter, Fatal Precision | Safe-range physical damage |
| Magic DPS | Mage / Wizard | Intelligence | Pyromancy, Arcane Empowerment, elemental spells | AoE magic from a distance |
| Support | Athlete / Beastmaster | Endurance | Updraft, Double Jump, taming/riding | Mobility, supply, utility |
Recommended team compositions
The rules of thumb the planner encodes:
| Size | Composition | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Solo Battlemage | Wand + Ward self-sustain is the most forgiving solo build |
| 2 | Tank + Healer, or 2x DPS | With only two slots, pick “survive” (Tank+Healer) or “clear fast” (2x DPS) |
| 3 | Tank + Healer + 1 DPS | The classic trio: survive + sustain + damage |
| 4 | Tank + Healer + Melee + Ranged | Covers all damage types and front/back line |
| 5 | Tank + Healer + 3 DPS | Standard raid shape: 2 sustain + 3 damage |
| 6 | Tank + Healer + 2 DPS + Support | Adds mobility/utility for longer expeditions |
| 8 | Tank + Healer + 4 DPS + Support | Full complement; split DPS across melee/ranged/magic |
Role synergy tips
- Tank + Healer is the backbone. Without a healer, even the tank will be downed in Shroud encounters; without a tank, the healer gets focused down. Always pair them.
- Do not stack the same damage type. Two melee DPS with no ranged leaves the back line exposed in open Shroud; a melee + ranged + magic spread covers every range.
- Support is the most underrated slot at 5+. Updraft and Double Jump let the squad cross terrain the rest cannot, and a tamed mount carries supplies. In 6+ person squads, always reserve one slot for Support.
- Respec is cheap (1 Rune per point). If a role does not fit the weapon you want, respec at a Flame Altar - do not force a build to match a role.
- Center-hub skills first, then the role path. Every member should grab Double Jump, Blink, and Updraft before investing deep in a single path.
Building the team in-game
- Decide the team size (the planner above assumes 1-8; dedicated servers support up to 16).
- Assign roles using the recommended composition.
- Each member picks their path and invests the center-hub skills first.
- Place a Flame Altar at the group camp so anyone can respec cheaply.
- Test the lineup in a low-level Shroud area before pushing to a boss.
