Should You Buy Enshrouded 1.0? Returner vs New Player
Is Enshrouded 1.0 worth it in October 2026? A decision guide comparing what changed for returners - the skill tree rebuild - versus what new players get at launch.
The honest answer depends on who you are. A returner and a brand-new player are making two different decisions on the same October 15 launch date - so this guide splits the question in half.

Is Enshrouded 1.0 worth it for returners?
If you played through early access, the 1.0 decision is mostly about the skill tree rebuild. Forging the Path (Update 8) reorganized the entire tree into 12 class paths grouped into three color categories - red (melee/defense), green (ranged/agility), blue (magic/support) - around a central hub of universal skills. That means your favorite early-access build may not exist in the same form anymore.
Before committing, ask yourself three things:
- Will your build survive the respec? Read the Forging the Path skill tree guide and check whether your go-to abilities mapped cleanly into the new paths or were reworked.
- What has changed since your last play session? The Veilwater Basin endgame biome (added November 2025) is the biggest new destination - if you stopped before that, you have a whole endgame zone to see.
- How do you handle respec? Resetting the tree costs 1 Rune per skill point refunded (see the skill tree guide), so a returner should budget a few Rune for a fresh start on the new tree.
Verdict for returners: worth it if you want to see the final polished game and the endgame biome - but treat your first session as a “rebuild your build” session, not a continuation.
Is Enshrouded 1.0 worth it for new players?
For someone starting fresh, 1.0 is actually the best moment to enter - you skip every early-access rough edge, get the final skill system (not a mid-redesign one), and all six biomes are open from day one, from Springlands to Veilwater Basin.
The new-player experience at 1.0:
- No fixed classes - you shape your own build across the 12 skill paths, so there is no “wrong class” to worry about at character creation.
- Co-op - starting with friends makes the early game dramatically more forgiving. Player count differs by platform: up to 16 on PC (Steam / dedicated server), up to 8 on PS5. See what changed in the tree in the skill tree guide.
- A clear early path - you start in the Cindervault at the heart of the Springlands biome (the tutorial region); the Enshrouded beginner guide walks the first 15 levels.
Verdict for new players: yes - 1.0 removes the only real argument for waiting (unfinished content), and the 12-path skill tree is the system the game is being finished on.
Which platform should you buy it on?
PC and PS5 launch together on October 15, 2026; Xbox is planned for spring 2027. The 1.0 buying and platform guide covers store options and what to check before launch day.
Bottom line
| You are | 1.0 verdict |
|---|---|
| Early-access returner | Yes - but expect to rebuild your build on the new 12-path skill tree |
| Brand-new player | Yes - 1.0 is the cleanest entry point the game has ever offered |
| On the fence about co-op | Start with friends; the game is built around shared camps |
