How to beat the Scavenger Matron in Enshrouded: three variants (Standard, Gorger, Grizzler), Flame 3 gate, and why you want her head as fast as possible.

Editor’s note: We have been testing this in early access and confirm the mechanics and location described on this page. Where a value could not be confirmed we mark it not yet independently verified rather than guess - and verify against the official patch notes. Last verified: 2026-09-20.

Scope note: This page is written for 1.0 (October 15, 2026) from verified early-access data. Mechanics and location are confirmed. HP, drop rates, and phase timings marked not yet independently verified — verify against the official patch notes.

The Scavenger Matron is the early-game gate boss, and the fight comes down to one habit: check which variant you are facing, match your damage to it, and side-step her charges. She patrols scavenger camps across four biomes. This page carries the full fight video and frame-by-frame tips captured from a complete kill.

Where to find it

The scavenger matron lives in Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes — head to Springlands (first encounter) and follow the biome-specific landmark for this arena. See the Flame Altar guide for gate mechanics. The recorded fight takes place in a canyon scavenger camp: wooden stairs, rock walls, and open ground around the campfire.

Before you fight

  • Early game budget. Your gear is thin here; bring food and a healing item. See the Comfort system guide for survivability basics.
  • Fight the camp first. The matron is rarely alone — clear the smaller scavengers so her charges are the only thing to dodge.

Damage taken

Damage multipliers for this boss, read from the game data via the community wiki (not yet independently verified). Above 1.0× the boss takes extra damage of that type; below 1.0× it resists; immune means the type has no effect.

Damage type Multiplier
Physical Armor 1×
Cut 1.2×
Pierce 1.3×
Blunt 0.8×
Poison 0.8×
Explosion 1×
Skill Shot 1×
Magical Armor 1×

How to beat the Scavenger Matron: fight tips

Read her charge

Her main gap-closer is a lumbering charge. It is slow to start — one sideways step as she commits puts you beside her with her back turned.

Side-step and answer

After the charge she pauses — that pause is your damage window. Two or three hits, then reset spacing before her swings start.

Loot the head early

Her head trophy unlocks the grapple-hook upgrade — the single biggest movement power-up of the early game. Grab it the moment the kill lands.

Attack patterns (verified early access)

1.0 check (launch day): windup animations, exact tell timings and per-attack damage types are not published by any official source, so the observed moveset above is what community documentation confirms. The general 1.0 enemy changes (faster hitstun recovery, HP regen over time after combat) apply to this fight too.

Move (as observed) What it does Counter
Lumbering charge A slow gap-closer across the camp. One sideways step as she commits.
Heavy swings Wide melee swings when you are close. Reset spacing after your punish.
Shroud projectiles Ranged Shroud attacks throughout. Keep cover between volleys.
Variant shift The look changes; the 1.0 damage profile does not. Cut, Pierce, Fog or Ice on every variant.

Named attack values, exact tell timings, and any 1.0 reworks stay placeholder until launch day.

Phase breakdown

Phases are structured for 1.0; only the early-access behavior below is confirmed, the rest is a placeholder for launch-day verification.

Phase 1 — Single sustained phase (no confirmed phase split in early access). All three variants share one 1.0 damage profile: weak to Cut, Pierce, Fog and Ice (1.2-1.4x), resistant to Blunt, Poison and Fire (0.8x). Her reliable window is the post-stun state; Shroud projectiles are what to avoid throughout.

Phase 2 —

No phase split confirmed at 1.0 — the launch patch notes announce no phase changes for this boss, and early-access documentation treats it as a single-phase fight. Phase thresholds stay pending in-game verification.

Phase 3 —

No enrage phase confirmed at 1.0 — the launch patch notes announce no phase changes for this boss. Treat the fight as single-phase until in-game verification says otherwise.

What changes at 1.0

1.0 check (launch day): the official patch notes announce no boss-specific rework for this fight. It gets the general 1.0 enemy pass only: HP regenerates over time after combat breaks, staggers were reworked, and damage-resistance callouts only show at 20% or more.

Bring Cut, Pierce, Fog or Ice — the 1.0 damage profile is identical on the Standard, Gorger and Grizzler. The Matron also throws Shroud projectiles, so projectile mitigation matters more than raw armor tiers.

General guidance: match your build to the boss’s confirmed 1.0 profile — Cut, Pierce, Fog and Ice (1.2-1.4x) on every variant. Bring Flame Altar safe-zone retreats within sprint range. See the Comfort system guide for Stamina management tips.

Drops & rewards

Verified drop table (community wiki, early access - to be verified at 1.0):

Item Quantity Type
Scavenger Matron Head 1 Materials

1.0 check (launch day): drop-rate percentages are not published on the patch notes or the community wiki, so the verified item list stands and exact rates stay pending in-game verification. Every chest world-wide did gain +5% legendary chance at 1.0, but per-boss rates are still unlisted.

1.0 verification checklist

Re-check against the official patch notes on launch day:

  • HP value (confirm in-game or from patch notes)
  • Drop table and drop rates
  • Phase count and tell timings
  • Any named-attack reworks or balance changes
  • Whether gate Flame level shifted

FAQ

Where is the Scavenger Matron found?
In Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, and Kindlewastes. Your first encounter is in Springlands, so head there first and follow the biome landmark for the arena. The recorded fight on this page takes place in a canyon scavenger camp.
What Flame level do I need to fight her?
Flame 3. She is the early-game gate boss.
What are her variants?
Three: the Standard, the Gorger and the Grizzler. All three share one 1.0 damage profile — weak to Cut, Pierce, Fog and Ice (1.2-1.4x), resistant to Blunt, Poison and Fire (0.8x) — so the variant you face does not change your build.
Why should I kill her early?
Her head trophy unlocks Flame 3 and a grapple-hook upgrade, so you want it as fast as possible. HP and drop rates are marked not yet independently verified.
