Enshrouded Spell System - Staves, Mana, Elements & Eternal Spells

How Enshrouded's spell system works: staves, Mana and Staff Charges, Fire/Ice/Shock elements, Eternal Spells, and the 1.0 staff rework.

The spell system is how Enshrouded handles magic. If you are building a Wizard, Mage, or any caster line, this is the layer underneath every staff you pick up.

How casting works

Spells are cast with Staves. Each cast spends two resources:

  • Staff Charges — the per-staff pool shown on the weapon. Most spells drain it; when it is empty the staff must recharge.
  • Mana — a global pool you regenerate over time and via gear.

Eternal Spells break that loop: they do not deplete their charges, so an Eternal variant of a spell can be cast indefinitely as long as you have Mana. They are the top-tier versions of each spell and the ones you build around.

Spells are obtained two ways: found in chests across the world, or crafted. They scale through tiered versions (I, II, III, …) and culminate in Tier-7 Eternal variants.

Elemental schools

The spell list spans eight schools. Each fills a different combat role:

School Role Example spells
Fire Burst area damage Fire Bolt, Fireball, Pillar of Flames, Fire Totem
Ice Bolts and control Ice Bolt, Blizzard, Ice Totem
Shock Chain lighting Chain Lightning, Ball Lightning, Shock Wisp, Shock Totem
Poison Damage over time Acid Bite
Healing Restore HP Heal Cascade, Chain Heal, Heal Beam
Bone Summon / decay Bonestorm, Hollow Wretch
Shroud High-cost heavy nukes Shroud Beam, Shroud Meteor
Utility Support effects Mana Drain, Light Burst

Fire spell table (sample)

A representative slice of the Fire school, with real in-game values, shows how a school scales from a level-3 starter bolt to a level-15 Eternal Fireball:

Spell Base Level Damage Mana Cost Cast Time
Fire Bolt I 3 19 21 0.75s
Fire Bolt II 5 23 29 0.75s
Fireball I 10 94 53 2.5s
Fire Bolt III 12 38 50 0.75s
Pillar Of Flames I 12 14 54 1.25s
Fireball II 15 120 67 2.5s
Eternal Fireball I 15 120 95 2.5s
Fire Bolt V 22 58 81 0.75s

The other schools follow the same tier-plus-Eternal structure — Ice and Shock each carry ~16-18 spells, Healing and Bone ~11 each, with Poison, Shroud, and Utility rounding out the list. Exact mana and damage numbers across all schools are confirmed from the 1.0 data.

The 1.0 staff rework

The 1.0 Update reworked staves so the heavy attack is immediate (no longer a wind-up you have to commit to), added 9 new spells, and introduced 22 Tier-7 Eternal spell versions at the top of each school. That makes Eternal spells a realistic core of a caster build rather than a late-game luxury.

Building around spells

Pair the spell system with the passive bonuses in the Wizard, Mage, and Trickster skill paths, and model your output with the DPS calculator. For raw damage math, see best weapons.
