Enshrouded Update 8 (Forging the Path) - Full Patch Notes & What Changed
Everything in Enshrouded Update 8, Forging the Path: the 12-path skill tree rebuild, the full point refund, Double Jump to the hub, and what it means for your build.
Forging the Path (Update 8, v0.9.1.0) is the final major update before Enshrouded’s 1.0 launch on October 15, 2026. It is a combat/skill rebuild, not a content update - the world, biomes, and boss roster carry over from early access, and the skill tree is what changes. This page is the change log; for the how-to on the new tree, see the Forging the Path skill tree guide.
Headline: the skill tree is rebuilt
The old free-form 184-point pool is now organized into 12 class paths circling a central hub of universal survival skills, color-coded into three broad categories. The point pool size stays the same and there are still no fixed classes - you do not “pick Warrior,” you allocate along the Warrior path and your build becomes more Warrior-like.
| Color | Category | Paths (4 each) |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Melee & defense | Warrior, Barbarian, Guardian (Tank), Battlemage |
| Green | Agility, ranged & survival | Athlete, Ranger, Assassin, Beastmaster |
| Blue | Magic & support | Wizard, Healer, Trickster, Mage |
The center hub (uncolored) holds core skills that benefit every build - Double Jump, Blink, Updraft, Merciless Attack, Power Parry, Miner, and other survival/utility nodes.
What changed, item by item
- Full reset + refund. On Update 8, every player’s skill tree was reset and all skill points refunded, so you re-allocate freely on the new tree. If you had an early-access build, treat 1.0 as a fresh start.
- Double Jump moved to the center hub. It is now accessible from any build, not just a specific branch.
- Skills can now be upgraded. After unlocking a skill you can invest further points in it (not just a one-time unlock), which opens real build optimization.
- Lower base unlock costs. You reach outer branches faster than before; upgrade costs are where the points go.
- New weapon/tool specialization skills added across the paths.
- New dodge-mode selection skill - pick how your dodge behaves (roll vs. the hub’s Blink-style teleport).
- Max-health boost options and a tree zoom-out for a better overview of the full layout.
What did NOT change
- World, biomes, and boss roster. This is a combat/skill update, so all six biomes (Springlands through Veilwater Basin) and the boss roster carry over unchanged.
- Flame level system. The Flame Altar, the Flame gates, and the Shroud all work the same way. See the Flame Altar guide.
- The 184-point pool total. Only the organization changed, not the amount of skill points available.
How to respec after the rebuild
Respecing at a Flame Altar resets your allocated skill points at 1 Rune per skill point refunded. Rune come from recycling upgradable equipment (armors, shields, wards, rings), so respec is cheap enough to experiment freely. A returner switching from the old tree should expect at least one full respec on their first session.
First-invest advice
- Center hub first - Double Jump, Blink, and Updraft are universal picks for almost every build.
- Then one primary path - commit to a single path (Warrior for melee, Wizard for magic, Ranger for ranged) before mixing.
- Support paths for co-op - Healer and Guardian shine in groups; Athlete’s mobility helps any damage path. See the co-op team planner.
For the full 12-path breakdown, respec mechanics, and which weapons fit each path, read the Forging the Path skill tree guide and the best weapons guide.
What to verify at 1.0
Update 8 is a combat/skill rebuild, so the structural changes above (12 paths, central hub, upgradeable skills, the refund) are expected to hold into 1.0. What to re-check on launch day:
- Exact point costs and upgrade tiers per path.
- Whether the refund repeats at the 1.0 launch or only happened on Update 8.
- Any 1.0 balance pass on specific skills or path synergies.
FAQ
- Does Update 8 add new biomes or bosses? No. It is a combat/skill rebuild - the six biomes and the boss roster carry over from early access.
- Did I lose my early-access build? The tree was reset and your points refunded on Update 8, so you re-allocate on the new 12-path tree. Plan for at least one full respec.
- Are there fixed classes now? No. The 12 paths are a navigation aid, not a class lock - you can mix any of the 12.
- When does 1.0 happen? October 15, 2026 (PC and PS5 same day; Xbox spring 2027). See the 1.0 release overview.
