Enshrouded Best Builds by Playstyle - Melee, Magic, Ranged & More

Quick Enshrouded builds by playstyle - melee, magic, ranged, mobility, and hybrid - mapped to the 12 Forging the Path skill paths, with first-point picks.

This is a deliberately light-touch guide. Enshrouded has no fixed classes - the 12 Forging the Path skill paths are a navigation aid, not a lock - so there is no single “best build.” Instead of a deep per-path dump (which is what the Forging the Path skill tree guide is for), this page maps each playstyle to the paths that serve it and the first few points worth taking.

How to read it: every build starts the same way - the center-hub skills (Double Jump, Blink, Updraft) benefit everyone. After that, commit to one primary path before mixing. The picks below are starting directions, not requirements; swap any path for another as long as the build still covers what you need.

The universal first picks

Before any playstyle, grab the center-hub skills that help every build:

Skill Why first
Double Jump Escape, repositioning, and reach - useful in every fight and every biome
Blink A dodge that is a short teleport through enemies - pure survivability
Updraft Climb steep terrain mid-glide - turns vertical obstacles into shortcuts

Take these first, then invest in your chosen path. See the skill tree guide for the full hub list and costs.

Melee

Core paths: Warrior (all melee, health, attack speed) + Barbarian (two-handed, stun, massive damage). Battlemage is the magic-leaning melee option (wands + wards, close-range self-sustain).

  • Warrior is the safe, all-round start: every melee weapon, more health, faster attacks.
  • Barbarian is the burst/stun build: two-handed weapons that stagger enemies, which then takes crushing Merciless damage.
  • First picks: Warrior for a balanced melee, Barbarian if you want to stagger-and-smash. Pair with Power Parry and Merciless Attack from the hub.

Good for: players who like being in the thick of the fight. In a group, this is your front line.

Magic

Core paths: Wizard (elemental fire/ice/lightning, ranged) + Mage (magic) + Trickster (crowd control: stun, knockback). Battlemage is the close-range magic variant.

  • Wizard is the ranged elemental DPS: kiting from distance beats melee for low-HP builds.
  • Trickster adds control - stun and knockback to protect yourself and set up the group.
  • First picks: Wizard for clean ranged damage, Trickster if you want to control the fight. Note that elemental weaknesses matter against bosses - an ice weapon is worth a lot on fire-weak fights.

Good for: players who prefer range and control. A Wizard is also a forgiving solo build (kite and sustain).

Ranged

Core paths: Ranger (multi-shot arrows, weak-point damage) + Assassin (bow/dagger crits, efficient glider).

  • Ranger is the safe-range physical DPS: multi-shot and weak-point damage from the back line.
  • Assassin is the crit build: bow/dagger crits and an efficient glider for mobile sniping.
  • First picks: Ranger for reliable back-line damage, Assassin for burst crits. Keep Blink and Updraft high so you can reposition when a target closes in.

Good for: players who want to stay out of melee range. In a group, this is your back line.

Mobility

Core paths: Athlete (physical speed, jump attacks, stamina recovery) + Beastmaster (tame and ride animals, wilderness survival).

  • Athlete is the movement build: faster physical combat, jump attacks, and quicker stamina recovery.
  • Beastmaster is the utility/wilderness build: tame and ride animals, which is huge for crossing terrain the rest of your group cannot.
  • First picks: Athlete if you want to be the one who can reach things, Beastmaster if you want mounts and a supply line. Both lean on Updraft and Double Jump more than any other build.

Good for: explorers and the “support” slot in a group - the person who carries supplies and crosses terrain. In a party of 5+, reserve a slot for this. See the co-op team planner.

Hybrid / group

Core paths: Guardian (Tank, heavy armor, party protection) + Healer (healing auras, party support), mixed with any damage path.

  • Guardian is the tank: heavy armor and party protection, holding aggro so the rest of the group can work.
  • Healer is the sustain: healing auras that keep the whole party alive through Shroud encounters.
  • First picks: if you are playing a group, Tank + Healer is the backbone - without a healer even a tank goes down in Shroud, and without a tank the healer gets focused. Each damage player then picks their own primary path.

Good for: co-op play. The co-op team planner maps the full lineup (how many of each role) for team sizes 1-8.

Per-path deep dives

Each of the 12 paths has its own deep-dive page - the stat to invest, the first skill picks, the weapon and armor that fit, and where the path lands in a group. The picks below group them by color category, and each links to the full page.

Red (melee & defense)

Green (agility, ranged & survival)

Blue (magic & support)

Respecting your build

Because there are no fixed classes, you can shift builds freely: a respec at the Flame Altar is 1 Rune per point, so if a playstyle does not fit the weapon you actually want to use, refund it rather than forcing a build to match a role. For the full 12-path reference (every path, the center hub, and respec mechanics), read the Forging the Path skill tree guide.
